FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

and BENEFITS OF OUR SERVICES

what is therapeutic massage & resistance stretching?

Therapeutic Massage & Resistance Stretching is a gentle, non-invasive and unique medical massage treatment that is very effective in treating acute or chronic pain, injuries, and a wide variety of conditions. It can also be used to treat muscle tension and stress associated with postural/structural imbalances. These effects are achieved by putting your body into different stretch positions and having you gently resist the pressure from the practitioner's hand (isometrics).

It engages the muscle pulley system by stretching and releasing tight muscles in four different directions, releasing the tight muscles and relaxing them, and at the same time strengthening weak muscles. When tight muscles release, and loose muscles tighten, this creates a complete balance of the body. The technique we are specially trained in and have been using and teaching for decades engages about 186 muscles in the body's muscular pulley and lever system -- a technique that stands out above the rest because it turns on signals between the brain and the body, allowing them to connect. Special contract and release methods, as well as spindle cell techniques and facia release, bring the body back to balance by retraining muscle memory. This method of treatment is life-changing for many people and is the most natural way to work with how the body works to release tightness in the muscles.

Therapeutic Massage & Resistance Stretching / Isometric Muscle and Body Balancing is very complementary to chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, or any form of therapeutic therapy.

Through training and decades of experience, we have a comprehensive understanding of the body's muscle pulley and lever balancing system and the intricacies of how the body works. If you want to relieve pain and enhance the quality of your life with increased range of motion, flexibility, relaxation, and relief from pain, we can help. WHAT CAUSES MUSCLE IMBALANCES?

Muscle imbalances are caused by habits such as repetitive motion, sitting improperly, improper lifting away from the core muscle with cumulative stress on the body, sports, and of course stress. Frequent use of cell phones and poor ergonomics of chairs, sofas, beds, workstations, and car seats are also factors.

The muscles work together by moving in pairs like a pulley system. When one set of muscles contract, its opposite muscle group has to relax. However, due to a variety of influences, some muscle groups become shortened over time. This causes them to lose the ability to release or relax. They remain tight, constricting blood flow and compressing the nerves, and this can cause pain.

At the same time, the opposite muscle groups can remain in a chronically overextended position, losing the ability to tighten up when needed. Both of these muscles are in a weakened condition, and both of these conditions can cause you pain. Because these muscles are unable to work together, it forces other muscles to try and do their job. This condition causes even more imbalances in the body, which can move the joints to the tighter side of the muscles, creating altered movement patterns and eventual joint and disk degeneration.

Isometric muscle balancing techniques can retrain the “memory” in the contracted muscle to release and stretch.

Therapeutic Massage & Resistance Stretching is the right solution to achieving a balanced body.

will isometric treatments help with sports injuries & PERFORMANCE?

Jill has had the privilege of treating professional athletes such as NFL and NBA players, an Olympic downhill skier and an Olympic ice skater, as well as semiprofessionals in golf, tennis, and baseball for sports injuries and to improve performance. Therapeutic isometric stretching has been used for centuries in professional sports, and such stretching makes players capable of great athleticism. What better credentialing could there be than the success of professional sports?

Years ago an NFL defensive tackle player from the Philadelphia Eagles wanted to inquire with his team to see if he could get Jill on board as one of their therapists. This was a flattering offer but too overwhelming with family responsibilities at the time, so she graciously declined.

CAN CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY, and animals BE TREATED?

Elderly

Many seniors suffer from a variety of problems that affect health and happiness. We have helped enhance the quality of life, helping them to be pain-free. Therapeutic Massage & Resistance Stretching / Isometric Muscle and Body Balancing improves blood circulation, heart function, lymph flow, posture, balance, mobility, muscle tension and strength and decreases pain from arthritis or bursitis ... and produces many other benefits for the elderly.

Studies show that Isometrics may be as good for your brain as it is for your body. For example, the journal
Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience examined the effects of Isometrics on Mild Cognitive Impairment associated with Alzheimer's Disease. Click here to read about it in the National Institute of Health's National Library of Medicine.

Children

Children are very resilient and can usually achieve quick results. Please visit our YouTube channel to watch videos featuring a young Spina Bifida client as well as a child whose TMJ and jaw issues were solved after a bicycle accident. Children often suffer back issues and other problems from the weight of carrying their school books, playing in sports, etc. Even serious long-standing conditions such as scoliosis can be diminished with this technique.

Please note that an adult must be present in the room at all times during treatment of any child aged 16 and under.

Animal Massage

Just like humans, animals respond and benefit from touch. Some animals experience the same aches and pains humans have: they get muscle spasms and soreness, arthritis and muscle stiffness and pain. As a Licensed Massage Therapist, Jill also offers a special animal massage. After a massage session, you may see your animal relax more than before. Its behavior may improve and it may be more agreeable to activities that caused pain before.
